|Toxic Masculinity at it’s worst|
Brando’s Stanley Kowalski is one of the most intimidating villains in movie history, because way too many people are like him in real life. I also totally got a Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard vibe with Blanche’s madness, especially at the end. Funny how they were released a year apart from each other. It’s almost like in the early 50s, people started realizing that women’s mental health was an actual thing that can’t be wished away by calling it “female hysteria”. Or Hollywood execs were like “crazy women are testing well, let’s adapt a Tennessee Williams play”…which sadly, is probably more likely.
