Another Classic I Haven't Seen Yet #21 - The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
|The Original Scream Queen|
This movie was either one of the first examples of many drugs being used during the planning phase of a film, or it was brilliantly not taking itself seriously.
I don't know what was more absurd - the monster smoking a mysterious substance with a blind country man, or getting rocked on gin in a crypt while the bones of a 19 year old girl lay near by, or the monster's speaking, which is literally a few syllables and a song away from Young Frankenstein.
But, it was gloriously "B-Movie". It was fun, it was weird, and it was cheap as hell. Karloff himself seemed to be in some low quality rip off of the mask he wore in the original, which didn't appear to have actual hair on it.
